The Presidential Office Launches An Instagram Account For The President Of Indonesia

The Presidential Palace has recently set up a new Instagram account dedicated to the President of Indonesia, identified as @presidenrepublikindonesia. This account was initiated approximately four days ago, on October 26, 2024, and currently showcases a single post featuring a photograph of Prabowo Subianto taking the oath of office as President at the DPR/MPR building on October 20.

As indicated in the account's description, @presidenrepublikindonesia serves as the official platform for the Presidential Office and is managed by the Presidential Communication Office.

As of Wednesday, October 30, at 3:00 PM WIB, the account has attracted 655,000 followers, while the account @republikindonesia has 587,000 followers. Both accounts are verified with a blue checkmark. The profile picture for @presidenrepublikindonesia features Prabowo, and it currently includes only one post depicting his oath-taking during the presidential inauguration in Jakarta on October 20.

In contrast, the @republikindonesia account has a single post displaying the waving red and white flag. Hasan Nasbi, the head of the Presidential Communication Office, clarified that this account is institutional rather than personal for Prabowo.

"This is not a personal Instagram for Mr. Prabowo; it is an account for the presidential institution. Therefore, it is not a personal account," Hasan stated at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on October 30. He further explained that the account was created to secure the username and prevent unauthorized use.

Hasan indicated that there may be a greater emphasis on the account for the President of the Republic of Indonesia. Alongside @presidenrepublikindonesia, the Presidential Communication Office has also established the account @republikindonesia. He elaborated on the significance of developing both accounts by referencing official presidential accounts from other nations. For instance, he mentioned the Instagram account @potus, which is designated for the 'President of the United States' and is utilized by each president throughout their tenure. "Thus, regardless of who holds the office, this account will be in use," Hasan remarked.
