WIKA Gedung, officially known as PT Wijaya Karya Bangunan Gedung Tbk., teamed up with KPHL Balikpapan to hand over and inaugurate the revitalization project for the Honey Bear Conservation Playground at the Environmental Education Tourism Area in Balikpapan on Thursday, October 10. This initiative is part of WIKA Gedung's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, focusing on environmental sustainability and the preservation of Indonesia's endemic wildlife.

The inauguration event was attended by key figures including Ir. H. Zulfikar, the Head of the Balikpapan Forest Management Unit, Nunik Sriwahyuni from the Pronatura Foundation, and representatives from WIKA Gedung, such as Acting President Commissioner Joseph Prajogo, Independent Commissioner Taufan Gestoro, and Commissioner Suli Fatimah. The WIKA Gedung management team was also present, including Hartanto Karti Raharjo (Finance, HC, & Manrisk Director), Tomo Dwi Hasputro (QHSE and Marketing Director), Bagus Tri Setyana (Operations Director I), and Dwi Purnomo (Operations Director II).

Zulfikar expressed gratitude towards WIKA Gedung for their significant contribution to environmental preservation at the KWPLH Balikpapan. He noted, "This program showcases the collaboration among stakeholders in supporting the endemic flora and fauna of Kalimantan. We hope this initiative inspires others to join in efforts to protect biodiversity and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals."

During the event, Hartanto highlighted that the revitalization is a crucial step in conserving endangered species like the Honey Bear, which is also the mascot of Balikpapan. "This revitalization reflects our commitment to environmental sustainability and the conservation of endemic animals, particularly the vulnerable Honey Bear that needs protection," he stated.

To support the ongoing efforts at the Bear Conservation Center, WIKA Gedung has also made a significant contribution by donating 40 Black Orchids, a plant native to Borneo, and planting Lahung and Kerantungan fruit trees, which are also endemic to the region. These fruit trees will serve as a natural food source for the bears in the conservation area.

Joseph Prajogo, the Acting President Commissioner of WIKA Gedung, mentioned that this project aligns with the company's Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) values. "This revitalization not only enhances the infrastructure but also boosts the role of the center as an educational and conservation hub. We hope it will make a real difference in preserving Borneo's forest ecosystem and raise public awareness about the importance of biodiversity," Joseph explained.

The revitalization efforts include upgrading playground facilities, planting fruit trees for the bears, and providing waste bins (B1, B2, and B3). This program represents a collaboration between the government, the community, and state-owned enterprises, aiming to create a positive impact on environmental conservation while inspiring the public to be more environmentally conscious.

WIKA Gedung is committed to integrating sustainability principles into every project it undertakes, striving to deliver solutions that align with sustainable development goals (SDGs). The company believes that this initiative will not only contribute significantly to ecosystem sustainability but also lay a strong foundation for a greener and more balanced future for generations to come.
