To strengthen Islamic banking literacy and empower SMEs, PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI) held a public lecture through the CEO teaching program at Hasanuddin University in Makassar, South Sulawesi. The event was directly led by BSI's CEO Hery Gunardi and attended by the Rector of Hasanuddin University, Jamaluddin Jompa. More than 1,100 students attended this event. During this opportunity, BSI also supported the progress of education in South Sulawesi. In 2024, BSI provided educational scholarships amounting to Rp5.5 billion in the South Sulawesi region, with Rp2.1 billion allocated to Unhas for outstanding students. CEO Teaching is a sustainable literacy program targeting young people, especially students. The hope is to provide new insights for students on the progress of Islamic economics in Indonesia and serve as a reference for entering the workforce. "We want young people to understand Islamic banks well because they are the future leaders who will lead the nation," said Hery. Hery mentioned that young people are future leaders who can advance Islamic banking. Moreover, students have interesting ideas that can be developed into businesses and contribute to the future development of Islamic banks. That is why BSI is present in the best universities in Indonesia to introduce the importance of students in contributing to the progress of the nation. "Working in an Islamic bank is working for both this world and the hereafter. For example, every year we make a profit. Now, 2.5% of that profit is deducted for zakat, so the net profit is clear. The zakat will be used to help the community again. In addition, working at BSI also helps employees maintain work-life balance, as we have something called the BSI Club, which includes sports, arts, and religious activities. So, work-life balance is highly valued," said Hery. Hery explained that BSI receives dozens of fresh graduates every year who want to join the Officer Development Program (ODP). Since the beginning of the merger until June 2024, BSI has consistently opened job opportunities for fresh graduates through the Officer Development Program (ODP), with more than 45,000 talents showing interest and 454 best talents selected and developed in 18 ODP batches.
