Foreign Minister Sugiono discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation, especially in the economic sector, with the non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan Ardasher Qodiri in a meeting on Tuesday (4/3). According to a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) in Jakarta, the meeting emphasized the strong commitment of Indonesia and Tajikistan in strengthening economic cooperation. The Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs hopes that Tajikistan, as the largest investor in Indonesia from the Central Asian region with a total investment value of 5 million US dollars in the last five years, can continue to expand its investment in Indonesia. He highlighted the downstreaming of the mineral industry as one of the investment sectors that investors from the Central Asian country can look at. According to Sugiono, sustainable investment from Tajikistan is in line with President Prabowo Subianto's Asta Cita vision regarding downstreaming and industrialization in order to increase the added value of domestic products. On the same occasion, the Indonesian Foreign Minister welcomed the increase in high-level visits between the two countries, including the participation of Tajikistan Prime Minister Kakhir Rasulzoda in the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) in Bali in May 2024. Both parties also hope that Indonesia and Tajikistan will agree to an agreement that can facilitate the strengthening of bilateral cooperation, both in the political and economic fields. According to the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Tajikistan, a former member of the Soviet Union with a population of 10 million people in Central Asia, have been established for 30 years. Last November, the Indonesian Embassy in Astana, which is also accredited to Tajikistan, held a diplomatic reception to commemorate 30 years of RI-Tajikistan relations in the capital Dushanbe. At that time, the Indonesian Ambassador to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan Fadjroel Rachmen stated that in the last five years the level of bilateral economic trade has experienced an increasing trend of 16 percent, with the highest value reaching 3.1 million US dollars in 2022. Tajikistan's investment in Indonesia which reached 5.1 million US dollars was also followed by an increase in tourism potential and strengthening people-to-people contact. Since 2015 until now, 106 Tajik students have studied in Indonesia through various scholarship programs, he said.
