Mondelez Indonesia Partners With GSS To Enhance Early Education On Responsible Plastic Use

Thursday, 27 Jun 2024

Understanding the importance of environmental synergy in shaping children's character development, especially in instilling awareness of plastic waste management, is crucial. Mondelez Indonesia expands the reach of the #BijakPlastikSejakDini initiative, now in its fourth year, by partnering with the Healthy School Movement (GSS) of the Ministry of Education and Culture, and organizing a series of activities to maximize environmental synergy among families, schools, and communities.

Parveen Dalal, President Director of Mondelez Indonesia, explains that the #BijakPlastikSejakDini initiative is part of the company's commitment to plastic waste management and a tangible contribution to #MondelezUntukIndonesia.

"The #BijakPlastikSejakDini initiative focuses on raising environmental awareness and inspiring children to manage plastic waste wisely from an early age. We hope that this initiative can continue to expand in the future, reaching and involving more parties," says Parveen Dalal.

Regarding the Healthy School Movement (GSS), Drs. I Nyoman Rudi Kurniawan, M.T., as the Supervisor of the Healthy School Movement of the Ministry of Education and Culture, explains that GSS is a program initiated by the Ministry of Education and Culture as a joint effort continuously carried out by all parties, from the central government, local government, partners, educational institutions, the community, and other stakeholders to realize Healthy Schools.

"We appreciate the involvement of Mondelez Indonesia as a partner in the Healthy School Movement through the #BijakPlastikSejakDini Initiative to strengthen the pillar of environmental health, especially in raising awareness of plastic waste management."

Mondelez Indonesia supports the Healthy School Movement by launching educational pocket book and introductory animation video materials, created with the support of the team from the Indonesia Environmental Scientists Association (IESA). Dr. Lina Trimugi Astuti, as the Secretary General of IESA, explains that this book emphasizes the importance of the role of each party (family, school, community) and encourages their participation in raising awareness #BijakPlastikSejakDini.

"To make it easier for children to understand, the material is packaged in the form of a 30-day challenge to become #BijakPlastikSejakDini. The pocket book and introductory video are divided into two age groups, for grades 1-3 and 4-6, and are equipped with monitoring columns that involve the participation of teachers, parents, and the surrounding community to monitor the child's progress," Dr. Lina explains.

Feeling helped by the presence of the #BijakPlastikSejakDini pocket book, Tasya Kamila, a public figure who applies an environmentally friendly lifestyle in her daily life, says that the learning environment for children will become richer and more effective with community synergy.

"The presence of the #BijakPlastikSejakDini book can certainly make it easier for parents and the community to encourage the growth of wise plastic character from an early age. Each element of society can contribute differently, from implementing habits at home, developing skills at school, to interacting with the surrounding environment," says Tasya.

Khrisma Fitriasari, as the Head of Corporate Communication & Government Affairs at Mondelez Indonesia, adds that the #BijakPlastikSejakDini initiative has been present since 2021, focusing on the concept of a waste bank in schools, which can provide socio-economic benefits and ultimately reduce the accumulation of plastic waste.
