Indonesia Sends Humanitarian Aid To Vanuatu For Earthquake Victims

The Indonesian government has sent humanitarian aid to Vanuatu, which recently experienced a 7.3 magnitude earthquake on December 17, 2024. This disaster resulted in 12 fatalities, hundreds of injuries, and significant infrastructure damage in the capital, Port Vila.

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Pratikno, emphasized the importance of Indonesia's support for its affected friends.

"The President has instructed that full attention be given to various potential disasters, both domestically and abroad. On December 17, our friend Vanuatu faced an earthquake impacting 80,000 people, with considerable infrastructure damage and loss of life. Today, the government has prepared aid that reflects Indonesia's global solidarity to be dispatched immediately," he stated.

During the team send-off at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, Health Minister Budi G. Sadikin added, "We are sending a health backup team, medical personnel, and health workers to Vanuatu. We hope they can assist our friends there effectively and return home safely."

The aid from the Indonesian government weighs a total of 50.5 tons, including 6.9 tons from the Ministry of Health. This assistance is designed to meet the urgent needs of the Vanuatu community and includes:

An Emergency Medical Team (EMT) Type 1 Mobile Plus, featuring specialists in surgery, orthopedics, internal medicine, anesthesia, and emergency medicine. This team will operate on-site for 14 days.

Health logistics, which include:

1. 75 types of medications and disposable medical supplies.

2. 15 emergency kits for urgent care.

3. 55 hygiene kits to meet the sanitation needs of refugees.

4. 1,191 food supplement packages for pregnant women and 595 packages for toddlers.

5. Ten water purifiers will be provided for clean water supply.

6. A 6×12 meter medical service tent will be donated after the mission is completed.

7. A Small Orthopedic Set and a Type 1 Mobile EMT Box will support medical operations.

8. Other supporting items include a 50 kg abathe.

This assistance also includes additional logistical support, all prepared to meet the needs of refugees and disaster victims.

The aid will be sent via Garuda Indonesia and is expected to arrive in Port Vila at 1:00 PM local time. This shipment represents Indonesia's solidarity and spirit of mutual assistance in helping others.
