In line with IKEA's sustainability strategy, People & Planet Positive, IKEA is committed to becoming more climate positive by reducing more greenhouse gas emissions. With this commitment, two IKEA stores in Indonesia have achieved certification for Environmentally Friendly Construction from BREEAM. Through its two stores located in Kota Baru Parahyangan, West Bandung and Jakarta Garden City, East Jakarta, IKEA Indonesia has been able to meet and implement a series of criteria to obtain prestigious sustainability certifications. Ririn Basuki, the Communication & Public Relations Manager of IKEA Indonesia, said, "We are very proud to receive the certification for environmentally friendly construction for both IKEA stores. With this certification, we are able to fulfill IKEA's sustainability commitment and create a better everyday life for many people." BREEAM is an internationally recognized measure of building sustainability that helps building owners and developers manage and mitigate risks by demonstrating sustainability performance during planning, design, construction, operation, or refurbishment. Environmentally friendly buildings are an essential part of the construction industry. This refers to the design, construction, and operation of buildings that minimize negative impacts on the environment and humans. The goal is to create a healthy, productive, and resource-efficient environment. The assessment categories for obtaining BREEAM's Environmentally Friendly Construction certification include management, water, energy, transportation, health & well-being, resources, resilience, land use & ecology, as well as pollution and innovation. "This certification is an achievement for IKEA Indonesia in carrying out its operations in a more sustainable manner, and we hope that other IKEA stores in Indonesia will also receive this prestigious certification in the future," concluded Ririn.
