The Ministry of Health has launched a free health screening program, or medical check-up, for various diseases accessible to citizens at community health centers (puskesmas). Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin stated that this free health screening program will be available on every citizen's birthday starting in 2025. "This screening is a birthday gift from the state to the community, conducted annually to ensure early health monitoring," Budi mentioned in an official release on Thursday, October 31, 2024. The Ministry of Health has already implemented a free medical check-up program at puskesmas under the National Health Insurance (JKN) since 2023, although this program currently covers screening for only 14 diseases. What diseases can be screened for free at puskesmas? Starting in 2025, the free medical check-up will encompass 75 diseases. This initiative aims to enhance the effectiveness of early detection and minimize the risks of mortality and disability. Siti Nadia Tarmizi, Director of Non-Communicable Disease Prevention and Control (P2PTM) at the Ministry of Health, indicated that the free health screening program on birthdays will not be limited to puskesmas. "Indeed, there is a health screening service program. Initially, it will be conducted at puskesmas and Posyandu, and later expanded to other healthcare facilities," Nadia confirmed to Kompas.com on Monday, November 4, 2024. The free health screening will be categorized into four groups based on age. Screening will be conducted for children aged 0-4 years, focusing on detecting congenital diseases. Free medical check-up for adults Health screening for adults focuses on the early detection of cancer, including breast and cervical cancer, which are leading causes of death among women, as well as prostate cancer, a primary cause of mortality in men in Indonesia. The Ministry of Health will collaborate with the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration to facilitate the data collection of residents celebrating their birthdays. Nadia further stated that residents who have a birthday and wish to participate in the free health screening in 2025 need only visit the nearest community health center with their identification. The health center staff will then verify the residents' data against the population database, enabling access to the free health screening services.
