Jokowi Was Taken Aback By The Large Number Of Individuals Signing Up For The Golden Visa Indonesia

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) expressed his astonishment at the overwhelming interest shown by applicants for the Golden Visa Indonesia. Nevertheless, he emphasized the importance of a rigorous selection process for the recipients of this visa. "To this day, I have consulted with the Director General of Immigration, who informed me that 300 individuals have already applied. I must admit, I was taken aback by the sheer number," Jokowi stated following the official introduction of the Golden Visa Indonesia at the Ritz Carlton, Jakarta, on Thursday (25/7/2024).

The Golden Visa Indonesia is a program designed to allow foreign nationals to reside in Indonesia for a period of 5 to 10 years. This visa is available to various individuals, including investors, foreign diaspora, global talent, and digital nomads. To obtain a residence permit, individual investors and corporations are required to register an investment ranging from US$ 350,000 to US$ 25 million. For instance, foreign investors looking to establish a company in Indonesia must invest US$ 2.5 million.

The required investment value for a 10-year stay is US$ 5 million. On the other hand, individual investors who do not plan to establish a company are only required to invest US$ 350,000 for a 5-year residence permit, and US$ 700,000 for 10 years. President Jokowi has emphasized the need for strict selection by immigration authorities in the visa granting process, stating, "Earlier I said that everything must be selected as strictly as possible. We hope to provide as many national benefits as possible."

Jokowi aspires for the Golden Visa Indonesia to create more chances for international professionals to relocate to Indonesia. This, in turn, will lead to an increase in the flow of money into the country. "Additionally, we aim to attract numerous global talents to Indonesia, enabling them to contribute to the nation's progress," he stated.
