The campaign encourages participants to refrain from purchasing non-essential goods or services for a specified duration, which could range from one month to three months, or even an entire year. 

According to Wollipop, the primary objective of the No Buy Challenge is to raise awareness regarding shopping habits, reduce impulsive buying, and foster saving practices. In light of the increase in the Value Added Tax (VAT) to 12 percent, this phenomenon has attracted considerable interest at the beginning of 2025 as a response to the global economic conditions predicting a rise in the prices of essential goods.

What is the No Buy Challenge?   

As reported by Wollipop, the No Buy Challenge first emerged on Instagram several years ago, where a small community shared frugal living tips. The concept is straightforward: participants avoid purchasing items that are considered wants rather than needs. This challenge aims not only to save money but also to mitigate excessive consumption and promote a minimalist lifestyle. 

Wants refer to non-essential items, encompassing anything that is not truly necessary for daily living, such as new clothing, gadgets, decorative items, or even coffee from cafes. In contrast, needs are essential items like groceries, bills, and healthcare services, which remain permissible for purchase.
