The increasing awareness among the public regarding the importance of environmental preservation has led to a rising trend in sustainable living. This shift encompasses various practices, from small actions such as using reusable water bottles and reducing plastic bag consumption to the construction of homes designed with green building principles. Nyiayu Chairunnikma, Head of Marketing at Semen Merah Putih (PT Cemindo Gemilang Tbk), stated that the concept of green architecture is no longer merely a trend or a response to contemporary styles; it has become a necessity that the property industry must address, particularly as awareness grows among the younger generation about sustainable living. Green architecture involves designing and constructing buildings in a manner that minimizes negative environmental impacts. This includes optimizing air circulation, conserving energy through the use of solar panels, creating multifunctional spaces, and utilizing more environmentally friendly building materials. However, affordability remains a significant barrier preventing individuals from adopting sustainable lifestyles. According to the Healthy & Sustainable Living 2023 - GlobalScan report, 49% of respondents identified affordability as the primary issue in pursuing sustainable living, a challenge that also affects the property sector. The government is actively supporting the green architecture housing initiative, exemplified by the IGAHP (Indonesia Green Affordable Housing Program) launched by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing in 2023, which aims to facilitate the transition to green housing and improve consumer access to financing for purchasing such homes.
