Monday, 16 Dec 2024

Singapore Intercultural School (SIS) South Jakarta is set to host a sports and entertainment event titled SIS South Jakarta 3K & 5K Colour Run & Walk 2024 on Saturday, December 7, 2024. This event aims to promote a healthy lifestyle while enhancing community awareness and support for those in need.

The three-hour running and walking event will see participation from 400 individuals, including students from Nursery to Junior College, parents, teachers, and non-teaching staff associated with SIS South Jakarta. Andrew Paterson, the management team leader of SIS Group of Schools, emphasized that the focus will extend beyond academic success to encompass health, well-being, and social-emotional development. "SIS believes that our school should cultivate not only intelligent students but also healthy, caring, and respectful individuals who are prepared to make a positive and sustainable impact on society," stated Andrew Paterson in a press release received by Tempo on December 14, 2024

Emphasizing a spirit of togetherness, all participants are encouraged to engage in the colour run, which prioritizes participation and experience over speed or final results. This inclusive approach allows individuals of all ages and fitness levels to partake in the event with joy and comfort.

Walking and leisurely running offer significant benefits for cardiovascular health by strengthening the heart muscles, lowering blood pressure, and enhancing blood circulation. Research indicates that light exercise, such as walking for 30 minutes a day, can reduce the risk of coronary heart disease by up to 19 percent. In addition to highlighting the importance of physical health, this event is dedicated to supporting two social organizations: Komunitas Taufan and the International Organization for Migration (IOM Indonesia). Komunitas Taufan is an organization that assists children with critical illnesses in Indonesia.
