The government is increasingly intensifying its efforts to combat online gambling, which remains prevalent in society. Recently, officials announced that, in collaboration with relevant agencies, they will target bank accounts and digital wallets associated with online gambling transactions. AstraPay, a digital wallet platform, has reported that it has not detected any transactions related to online gambling thus far. Nevertheless, AstraPay's Chief Marketing Officer, Reny Futsy Yama, stated that the company will continue to monitor transactions deemed suspicious. "We are consistently screening transactions that appear suspicious from users. This serves as a mitigation measure," she remarked while attending the Astra Auto Fest 2024 held in South Jakarta on Friday, November 15. Reny further explained that the company is continually tightening the use of the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) within AstraPay to prevent its misuse for online gambling transactions. "We are also imposing restrictions to ensure that QRIS on AstraPay is not utilized for online gambling," Reny added. Previously, the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) collaborated with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) to eradicate online gambling activities in Indonesia. As a result, 10,000 bank accounts have been frozen due to their affiliation with online gambling, with this action continuing until mid-November 2024. In addition to bank accounts, Mahendra Siregar, the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of OJK, stated that the blocking measures will also target digital wallet providers. He mentioned that Bank Indonesia (BI) holds the authority to freeze digital wallet numbers associated with online gambling activities. For context, Ivan Yustiavandana, the Chairman of the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), previously indicated that by November of this year, the value of gambling transactions had reached Rp 283 trillion.
