NeutraDC Collaborates With The Indonesian Embassy In Singapore To Hold A Panel Discussion On Data Protection Policies

PT Telkom Data Ekosistem (NeutraDC), a data center company, collaborated with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Singapore (KBRI Singapore) to hold a panel discussion on the theme "Explore Data Protection Policies Supporting Global Enterprise's Expansion in Indonesia" at KBRI Singapore on Friday, June 7, 2024.

This discussion focuses on the policy of personal data protection in Indonesia, highlighting various aspects together with four panelists: the Director General of Aptika at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan; the Director of Group Business Development at Telkom, Honesti Basyir; Partner at K&K Advocates, Danny Kobrata; and the Chief Marketing Officer of Straits Interactive, Alvin Toh.

Through this discussion initiated by a subsidiary of PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom), the panelists share their views on regulations, challenges, opportunities, and compliance strategies related to data storage.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Singapore, Suryo Pratomo, emphasizes the importance of data centers as core infrastructure and critical to achieving Indonesia's data-based digital economy. With the potential of the data center industry, there are opportunities for Indonesia to collaborate in the technology and data center sectors, including with Singapore.

"Moreover, with the existence of Law No. 27/2022 concerning Personal Data Protection. Through this regulation, Indonesia can further strengthen its position as a center for storing both domestic and international data," said Suryo Pratomo.

In the discussion, the Director General of Aptika at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan, also highlights some important points. "The evolution of data protection regulations in Indonesia continues to adapt to the latest technological advancements.

The alignment of Indonesia's data protection policies with regional policies is also our main focus as regulators. Currently, the main priority and challenge related to enforcing data protection policies in Indonesia is to ensure that all parties comply with the established standards," explained Semuel.

Director of Group Business Development at Telkom, Honesti Basyir, also expressed the same sentiment, explaining the steps taken by Telkom in response to data protection policies. Honesti stated that Telkom has made significant investments to ensure compliance with data protection policies.

"Moreover, we have a large-scale and internationally standardized data center business unit through NeutraDC. Therefore, we pay close attention to the data protection needs to provide peace of mind and comfort for our customers," said Honesti.

As is known, Indonesia is becoming an attractive market for data center industry with the highest growth in Southeast Asia. This is due to the support and investment facilitation from the government and the existence of data protection regulations.

Government support through the enactment of Law No. 27/2022 concerning Personal Data Protection (PDP Law) is a major consideration for data center users to place both domestic and international data in Indonesia.
