Ministry Of Industry Warned Sellers, Threatening To Deactivate Of IPhone 16 IMEI

The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) has announced plans to deactivate the IMEI for the iPhone 16 series. The distribution of this model in Indonesia is officially prohibited due to licensing complications.

As reported by TvOneNews, Feb Henry Anthony Arif from Kemenperin indicated that the ministry will consider deactivating the IMEI for iPhone 16 units that are brought in through passenger baggage and subsequently found for sale in Indonesia.

At present, the iPhone 16 available in Indonesia is intended solely for personal use by travelers arriving from abroad. Kemenperin Feb cautioned that individuals purchasing this Apple product from travelers may risk financial loss, as the responsibility for such purchases lies with them.

Those who acquire the iPhone 16 through unofficial channels will not be eligible for warranty coverage from authorized distributors.

Additionally, Kemenperin Feb noted that legal measures will be pursued against individuals who promote the iPhone 16 series on online marketplaces, as this activity is believed to contravene Article 35 of Government Regulation Number 46 of 2021 concerning Postal Telecommunications and Broadcasting.

The official has advised the public against the temptation to purchase the iPhone 16 from online platforms or retail outlets. This stance represents a significant measure by the Indonesian government aimed at holding Apple accountable for its investment obligations and ensuring equitable treatment for all smartphone investors within the nation.

It is important to note that the sale of the iPhone 16 is prohibited in Indonesia due to non-compliance with local regulations established by the government. Apple has yet to fulfill its investment commitment in the country, having only invested Rp 1.48 trillion of the pledged Rp 1.71 trillion.
