The Purchasing Manager's Index (PMI) for the Manufacturing sector in Indonesia released by S&P Global in May 2024 still shows an expansion phase, standing at 52.1, which is a slowdown compared to April 2024 at 52.9. This condition reflects that the national manufacturing industry remains solid and healthy despite the uncertainty in the global financial market.

"We highly appreciate the manufacturing industry players in Indonesia who still have high confidence in running their businesses impressively amidst the unstable global economic and political situation," said Minister of Industry AgusGumiwangKartasasmita in his written statement on Tuesday (4/6).

To further boost the optimism of manufacturing industry players in the country, the government continues to strive to maintain a conducive business climate through the implementation of various strategic and pro-business policies. One of the efforts carried out by the Ministry of Industry is to enhance the quantity and quality of competent and globally competitive human resources (HR) in the industry.

"The Ministry of Industry is well aware of the importance of the role of HR in realizing a strong and competitive industry. That is why the development of skilled industrial HR is a priority for the Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI)," said the Head of BPSDMI, Masrokhan.

In order to produce excellent industrial HR, the Ministry of Industry has several industrial vocational education units, including 11 Polytechnics, two Community Academies, and nine Vocational High Schools (SMK), spread across various cities in Indonesia. These educational units have a high absorption rate in the industry. As of May 2024, data shows that 93.8 percent of SMK graduates under the Ministry of Industry have been absorbed into the industry, while the rest continue to further their education or start their own businesses. For polytechnics and community academies, 86 percent of graduates are already working in the industry. The community can register for schools and campuses under the Ministry of Industry through the Industrial Vocational Admission Route (JARVIS) program," said Masrokhan.

JARVIS organized by BPSDMI Ministry of Industry along with Ministry of Industry educational units consists of three types of registration, namely JARVIS Achievement through report or other achievements, JARVIS Together held simultaneously, and JARVIS Independent held by each school or campus.

For JARVIS Together, the registration period has taken place from April 21, 2024, to May 31, 2024. The public interest in participating in the registration is quite high and has increased from the previous year.

"Compared to last year, the number of applicants for JARVIS Together in 2024 has significantly increased, from 7,060 applicants for Polytechnics/Academies and 2,783 applicants for Vocational Schools. Meanwhile, this year, a total of 8,501 Polytechnic/Academy applicants and 5,432 Vocational School applicants have participated in JARVIS Together 2024," said Masrokhan.

The community can still register for schools and campuses under the Ministry of Industry through JARVIS Independent, which is a selection organized by each educational unit with different selection times this year. For education at schools and universities, the Ministry of Industry implements a dual system that links and matches with the industry. Students not only learn theory in the classroom but also practice directly according to the current industry environment so that when they graduate, they are ready to enter the workforce. "The link and match between Ministry of Industry educational units and the industry are manifested not only in the form of absorbing graduates but also in jointly organizing education, starting from curriculum development, providing teachers, strengthening certification, organizing industrial work practices, and developing and providing the necessary infrastructure and facilities," explained Masrokhan.
