Wednesday, 14 Aug 2024

Alibaba Cloud, the backbone of digital technology and intelligence for Alibaba Group, is ramping up its support for the Paris 2024 Olympics by leveraging its cloud technology. These initiatives aim to assist media professionals in covering the Olympic events and enhance the viewing experience for sports fans worldwide through innovative applications. "Alibaba plays a crucial role in supporting the technology used during the Olympics, significantly boosting the efficiency and sustainability of operations. Our partnership goes beyond just the Olympic games, as Alibaba is key in the AI Agenda for the Olympics, helping us responsibly harness the vast potential of AI. All of this showcases how Alibaba is the perfect partner in shaping our digital future," said Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Enhancing Media Asset Management with Deep-Learning Archiving Solutions Alibaba Cloud has teamed up with the IOC to launch the Media Archiving AI service. This cloud-based solution offers optimized visual search capabilities, automatic categorization of multimedia content, and video highlight production through AI-driven media asset management. The IOC's Media Archiving AI marks a significant breakthrough in sports media archiving. The automatic video clip creation feature, powered by Alibaba Cloud's visual AI, identifies and compiles key moments from boxing and archery events during Paris 2024. This feature aids media in storytelling, enriching the Olympic viewing experience for a global audience.

Alibaba Cloud's AI algorithms are speeding up the indexing and categorization of decades-old Olympic audio-visual collections and photos, making the Olympic Archive way easier to search through. This not only helps in discovering content but also streamlines media asset management workflows. "We're proud to support the IOC's AI Agenda, launched this April," said Selina Yuan, President of International Business at Alibaba Cloud Intelligence. "Our cloud-based AI initiative is designed to transform the experience for media professionals and global Olympic fans. We're committed to delivering innovations that make the Olympics more efficient, engaging, sustainable, and inclusive for all stakeholders."

At Alibaba Wonder Avenue (AWA), Alibaba Cloud also rolled out the Smart Virtual Boxing project. Their LLM Qwen is used to analyze player movements and performance during Virtual Boxing matches, providing real-time commentary in English and French about the players' actions and predictions for the next round, enhancing the viewer experience. "Virtual sports are gaining popularity worldwide, increasing accessibility and encouraging more diverse participation in sports," Yuan added. "We're dedicated to extending the benefits of innovative technology to traditional sports and e-sports."

During the Paris 2024 Olympics, the Multi-Camera Replay Systems from OBS Cloud, a collaborative effort between the Olympic Broadcasting Service (OBS) and Alibaba Cloud, will offer 360-degree slow-motion replays with frame-freeze capabilities to clarify key moments in the matches.
