In addition to Kuo, another well-known analyst, Jeff Pu, also published a similar prediction. Previously, there were rumors that the A20 chip would use a 3nm process, but this news was later withdrawn. The A20 chip will mark Apple’s transition to TSMC’s N2 process, replacing the A19 chip that is expected to use TSMC’s third-generation 3nm process (N3P) in the iPhone 17. Industry estimates suggest that the A20 chip could offer up to 15% faster speeds and up to 30% better energy efficiency than the A19 chip. Previously, in July 2024, reports suggested that Apple had to delay using TSMC’s 2nm chips for the iPhone 17 due to production constraints. However, TSMC has now reportedly made significant progress in its chip production capabilities. In January 2025, TSMC reported steady progress in 2nm chip production in Taiwan, with plans to commercialize 4nm chips at its Arizona facility.
