Apple Watch Is Expected To Feature A Camera To Support Artificial Intelligence

Thursday, 27 Mar 2025

Apple, the American technology company, is reportedly working on its smartwatch, the Apple Watch, by incorporating an internal camera to enhance its artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.

According to a report by Engadget on Sunday (March 23), this information was shared by senior journalist Mark Gurman in his newsletter, Power On. He indicated that this initiative is aimed at enabling the Apple Watch to better support its AI ecosystem.

Gurman noted that the company plans to introduce the camera feature in both the standard and Ultra series of the watch. If everything proceeds as intended, this futuristic product could potentially hit the market by 2027.

Furthermore, it is suggested that the camera's placement may differ across the various models. Gurman mentioned that the standard series watch might feature a camera on its display, while the Ultra series will likely have the camera positioned on the side of the device.

This development would allow the Apple Watch to support AI features such as Visual Intelligence, which can provide real-time information about objects that the camera is pointed at by the user.

In relation to other product developments, Gurman previously reported that Apple is also working on AirPods equipped with an internal camera for similar purposes. He mentioned in his newsletter that these AirPods are expected to be released around the same time as the camera-equipped Apple Watch.
