Minister Of Communication And Digital Ensures That IPhone 16 Has Obtained Postal Certificate

Wednesday, 26 Mar 2025

Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid ensured that the iPhone 16 series has obtained a postel certificate, which shows that the device has met the standards and technical requirements set.

A postel certificate is mandatory for devices that will be made, assembled, imported, used, and traded in Indonesia.

"From our office, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Office, for the iPhone with all kinds of variants, it has been completed, the iPhone 16," said Meutya at a breaking-of-the-fast event with journalists in Central Jakarta, Friday night.

Based on a broadcast on the postel certification website, the Ministry of Communication and Digital has issued postel certificates for five variants of cellphones in the iPhone 16 series.

The postel certificates were issued for the iPhone 16 Pro Max (Number 108550/DJID/2025), iPhone 16 Pro (Number 108552/DJID/2025), iPhone 16 Plus (Number 108553/DJID/2025), iPhone 16 (Number 108574/DJID/2025), and iPhone 16e (Number 108575/DJID/2025).???????

Meutya said that after the device was declared to have passed postel certification, the company still had to take care of other requirements to market the iPhone 16 series in Indonesia.

Companies need a postel certificate to obtain an Import Product Registration Mark (TPP) from the Ministry of Industry.

In addition, companies must take care of the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) registration of their products. "From our office, everything has been completed and the permits have been issued. It means that it can be distributed in the very near future," said Meutya.

Efforts to market the iPhone 16 series from Apple in Indonesia were previously hampered because the company had not been able to meet the domestic component level (TKDN) requirements. After lengthy negotiations between the Indonesian Government and Apple, it was agreed that Apple would meet the TKDN in Indonesia by investing through a supplier company called ICT Luxhsare.

In a press conference on February 26, Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that ICT Luxshare would invest in producing AirTag accessories at a factory under construction in Batam with an investment of 150 million US dollars.

"With the completion of negotiations between the Ministry of Industry and Apple which have been stated in the MoU document, the process of issuing TKDN certificates for Apple can begin," he said.
