Friday, 24 Jan 2025

The Indonesian Internet Domain Name Manager (PANDI) successfully concluded the year 2024 with an impressive performance, achieving a target of 1,215,714 registered .id domains.

This figure reflects the high interest of the public in .id domains as a trusted digital identity.

According to PANDI's 2024 statistical report, the top three market shares for .id domains are held by .my.id with 440,518 registrations in the leading position, followed by ~.id with 286,097, and .biz.id in third place with 180,632 registrations.

"This achievement is a tangible testament to the hard work, collaboration with registrars, and PANDI's strong commitment to making .id domains the preferred choice both nationally and internationally," stated PANDI Chairman John Sihar Simanjuntak during a press conference in South Jakarta on January 22, 2024.

He noted that the .id domain is now utilized in over 180 countries. PANDI is determined to continue its growth, aiming for 1,350,000 registered .id domains by 2025.

Furthermore, John emphasized that the .id domain continues to demonstrate its competitiveness by capturing a larger market share compared to .com domains in Indonesia. This position indirectly establishes .id as a preferred option for businesses and the public in Indonesia, contributing to the development of an inclusive, innovative, and competitive internet ecosystem.

Referring to data from the Asia Pacific Top Level Domain Association (APTLD) as of October 2024, the market share of .id domains in Indonesia shows a positive trend.

In 2022, the market share for .id domains was recorded at 39%, while .com dominated with 47%. However, in 2023, .id increased its share to 43%, while .com saw a decline to 42%.

The latest data from October 2024 indicates that .id now commands 51% of the total domain market in Indonesia, which comprises 1.9 million domain names, while .com has dropped to 40%.
