OpenAI has officially announced its latest breakthrough for the ChatGPT service, confirming that ChatGPT can now be accessed directly through WhatsApp. According to information from Tom's Guide on Friday, December 20, 2024, the ChatGPT service on WhatsApp is available for free, and users do not need to create an account to access it. Interactions with ChatGPT on WhatsApp are reported to be similar to other chatbots already available on the platform, including Meta AI, which has recently been introduced to select users. This announcement is part of the 12 Days of OpenAI program. It is noteworthy that the company has indicated plans to launch various new products over the course of 12 days. To access ChatGPT on WhatsApp, users simply need to add the contact number 1-800-242-8478 within the application. This service is accessible to users worldwide. For reference, ChatGPT on Meta's messaging application utilizes the same GPT-4o-mini model as the free version of the chatbot. OpenAI has stated that this chatbot can assist with various tasks, including providing help with specific jobs, brainstorming, offering recommendations, and engaging in general conversation. In addition to its availability on WhatsApp, users in the United States can even engage in voice conversations with ChatGPT through voice calls, utilizing technology similar to the Realtime API. ChatGPT Search Now Free for All Users Previously, free users who were curious about the ChatGPT Search feature were advised to be patient. OpenAI has recently announced that this feature will be available to all free users in the coming months. As a result, ChatGPT users will no longer need to subscribe to the Plus or Pro services to try out this feature. In the future, users will only need an OpenAI account to start using ChatGPT Search. Furthermore, if users require up-to-date information, ChatGPT will automatically search the web for answers.
