Wednesday, 18 Dec 2024

Indonesia and India are exploring a partnership regarding the BrahMos missile technology produced by India. This was confirmed by the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral TNI Muhammad Ali on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, following discussions about the meeting between Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Indian CNS Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi. "Regarding the defense equipment related to the BrahMos missile, this indeed represents one of the potential options for collaboration," stated the CNS at the KBT Sunda Kelapa Pier in North Jakarta.

However, the Indonesian Navy is awaiting a decision from the Ministry of Defense concerning the BrahMos. Admiral Ali clarified that the decision is still under review by the Ministry of Defense. "We are still assessing whether this is the choice of the Ministry of Defense, but ultimately, it is the Ministry of Defense that will make the arrangements," the CNS explained. Additionally, he noted that Indonesia and India have been collaborating extensively, particularly in border security. The Indonesian Navy, he elaborated, conducts joint patrols and regular training exercises with India to safeguard the borders. He emphasized that the relationship between Indonesia and India has been positive. "Overall, our relationship with India is very good, and we will enhance cooperation across all sectors," the CNS remarked.

Previously, Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin welcomed a visit from Indian CNS Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi. In a post on his personal social media, the Minister highlighted several key issues discussed during the meeting with Admiral Tripathi, including joint exercises, ship development, and combined maritime security operations. "Collaboration on advanced technologies such as BrahMos was also a focal point, presenting an opportunity for Indonesia to learn and grow," stated Minister Sjafrie.
