In Response To The Advancements In Communication Technology, ITS Has Launched A Bachelor's Degree Program In Communication Science

In response to the challenges posed by the advancement of communication technology, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) has introduced a Bachelor’s Degree Program in Communication Science. This program, aimed at producing outstanding and reliable graduates in the field of communication, was officially launched at the ITS Research Center Auditorium on Sunday, November 17.

Professor Nurul Widiastuti, the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Student Affairs at ITS, expressed enthusiasm for the establishment of the Communication Science program. She noted that the addition of another social science program within the technology-focused environment of ITS is a positive development. “This is certainly beneficial, as social sciences serve as a bridge to channel the advantages of technology to society,” she stated.

The distinguished professor from the Department of Chemistry at ITS emphasized that the introduction of this program, which falls under the Department of Development Studies, represents ITS's contribution to the nation and the world. “It is hoped that students and graduates of Communication Science will consistently bring forth innovations that can create and support superior human resources for Indonesia,” added Nurul.

To provide further details about the new program, Hermanto SS MPd, the Head of the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Communication Science at ITS, outlined the significant role that the field of communication science plays, particularly in the context of human life in the current digital and globalized era. “Communication science can influence public behavior and opinion, as well as facilitate the exchange of information and ideas worldwide,” he explained.

Consequently, Hermanto continued, the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Communication Science at ITS will equip students with communication skills across various domains through the courses offered. These include public communication, organizational and corporate communication, mass communication, business communication, political communication, and global communication. In this way, Hermanto emphasized the expectation for students to contribute positively to society.

Furthermore, he stated that the Bachelor’s Program in Communication Science at ITS also presents enticing job prospects for its graduates. Fields within communication, such as communication analysts, media practitioners, communication staff, and communication research assistants, are awaiting them in the job market. "Graduates in Communication Science can find employment across various sectors, from industry to government," remarked the man from Magetan.

Hermanto revealed that the Bachelor’s Program in Communication Science at ITS will officially welcome its first cohort of students in the academic year 2025/2026. With a capacity of 50 seats, the program is set to be contested through both national and regular selection pathways. A range of educational facilities has also been prepared to ensure the production of high-quality graduates in the field of communication.
