Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman has revealed that a foreign investor is keen on setting up a dairy farm in Indonesia. This announcement followed a private meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace on Thursday, October 31, 2024. Amran also provided an update on the rice field development initiative in Central and South Kalimantan, indicating his intention to visit the sites personally and report back to the president after his trip abroad. Additionally, he mentioned that a Vietnamese investor has expressed interest in investing in Indonesia. "There is an investor from Vietnam focused on dairy cattle, and we are working to facilitate their investment in Indonesia," Amran informed the media. While he refrained from sharing specific details regarding the Vietnamese investor's intentions, he confirmed that the government is preparing land for the dairy farm, with plans for three potential locations: Central Sulawesi, South Kalimantan, and South Sulawesi. "We recently visited Poso and discussed this with TH Group, as well as in South Kalimantan," he noted. "For cattle in Poso, we have 12,000 hectares available, in South Sulawesi approximately 20,000 to 30,000 hectares, and in Central Kalimantan potentially 50,000 hectares," he added. In July 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture successfully secured Vietnamese investment in cattle farming during an official visit by the Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Agriculture and a group of entrepreneurs. Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was established to formalize agricultural cooperation on May 19. Agung Suganda, the Director General of Livestock and Animal Health at the Ministry of Agriculture, revealed plans for a Vietnamese investor to introduce 250,000 dairy cows to Poso Regency, which is projected to yield approximately 1.8 million liters of milk each year. According to the Ministry of Agriculture's website, this investment initiative involving 250,000 cows is anticipated to have a substantial impact.
