Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan is feeling positive about the approval of the Ministry of Trade's budget for 2025, which stands at IDR 1.65 trillion, as confirmed by Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives. This budget is down by IDR 313.99 billion, or about 15.96%, compared to the 2024 budget of IDR 1.97 trillion. The focus for the 2025 budget will be on four key areas: boosting exports, supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), enhancing inter-regional trade, and ensuring trade security. The approval was announced during a working meeting held on Wednesday, September 4, in Jakarta, where they discussed the Ministry's work plan and budget for 2025, along with an evaluation of the budget's implementation in the second quarter of 2024. The budget figure is based on a joint letter from the Minister of Finance and the Minister of National Development Planning regarding the budget ceiling for ministries and special allocation funds for the 2025 fiscal year. Minister Zulkifli Hasan emphasized the need to keep boosting exports and developing the MSME sector, stating, "With an overall budget decrease, we need to be creative to keep our exports positive and support MSME growth. We’ll manage imports and stabilize prices." He also expressed gratitude for Commission VI's approval of an additional budget proposal of IDR 500 billion for 2025, which was submitted to the President of Indonesia on June 28, 2024. The proposal for additional budget allocation will focus on strengthening trade representation to market Indonesian products and enhance market intelligence, boost export promotion, integrate export information, and reinforce export improvement policies. During the meeting, Minister Zulkifli Hasan outlined four policy directions aimed at achieving development targets in the National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN) 2025—2045 and the draft National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2025—2029. "The goal is to increase Indonesia's export share in the global market from 1.20 percent in 2022 to over 1.43 percent by 2029. Additionally, we aim to triple inter-regional trade from IDR 1.13 trillion in 2021 to IDR 3.01 trillion by 2029," said Minister Zulkifli Hasan. Meanwhile, regarding budget performance evaluation, he reported that as of August 31, 2024, the Ministry of Trade's budget realization reached IDR 1.12 trillion, which is 57.34 percent of the total budget ceiling of IDR 1.96 trillion for 2024. This achievement is higher than the national average for central government spending, which stands at 40.40 percent. Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives is urging the Ministry of Trade to enhance the budget realization for 2024 to meet the established targets. Accompanying Minister Zulkifli Hasan in this meeting were Deputy Minister of Trade Jerry Sambuaga and several Echelon I officials from the Ministry of Trade.
