Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan inaugurated two traditional markets in the Riau Province, namely Palapa Market in Pekanbaru and Minggu Market in Rokan Hulu Regency. The inauguration took place at Palapa Market in Pekanbaru, Riau on Monday, June 24th, marked by the unveiling of a plaque and ribbon-cutting ceremony.

In his speech, Minister Zulkifli Hasan emphasized that traditional markets are the main supporters of the people's economic growth. Therefore, the revitalization of traditional markets has become a government program to support Indonesia's economic growth.

"The inauguration of traditional markets in Pekanbaru and Rokan Hulu is a government program because markets are an important facility, especially traditional markets. These markets play a significant role in stabilizing Indonesia's economy. Traditional markets and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are the main supporters of Indonesia's economy," said Minister Zulkifli Hasan.

Minister Zulkifli Hasan hopes that traditional markets will become a means to achieve economic equality among the people, in line with the goal of an independent Indonesia. Additionally, traditional markets serve as a platform to nurture entrepreneurship.

"We want Indonesia to progress with widespread ownership and equality, not conglomerates. That is the goal of an independent Indonesia, which is fairness for all Indonesian people, including economic aspects based on Pancasila principles, meaning expanding ownership. One way to achieve this is by bringing markets closer to the community. Furthermore, traditional markets are essential for the development of MSMEs because entrepreneurship needs to be nurtured," explained Minister Zulkifli Hasan.

The construction of the two traditional markets was funded by the Ministry of Trade's Task Assistance Fund for the 2023 fiscal year, with each market allocated Rp3 billion, as stated in Minister of Trade Regulation No. 18 of 2023. Both markets were designed based on the Indonesian National Standards (SNI) for Traditional Markets, prioritizing cleanliness, safety, and comfort for visitors. These markets offer essential goods, fish, chicken, vegetables, and clothing.
