The Ministry Of Industry: Improving The Logistics Sector Remains A Government Priority

Friday, 10 Jan 2025

Improving the logistics sector through policy and regulation is a key priority for the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka administration. A strong logistics sector will help boost the competitiveness of the national industry.

This was stated by Deputy Minister of Industry Faisol Riza during a visit from FedEx Express Indonesia at the Ministry of Industry office in Jakarta on Wednesday (January 8).

According to Deputy Minister Faisol, geographical challenges remain a major issue for the logistics industry in Indonesia. This affects the logistics cost structure faced by businesses and consumers.

"Therefore, the government is speeding up the development of transportation infrastructure, including toll roads, ports, train stations, and airports to enhance connectivity, especially in eastern Indonesia and remote areas," said the Deputy Minister.

He added that this government effort needs support from logistics industry players to increase capacity and expand warehouse availability in various regions. This will make the distribution of goods both domestically and internationally faster, more efficient, and reduce operational costs.

"Increasing capacity is also crucial for creating more job opportunities to drive national economic growth. FedEx can also play a role in transferring knowledge to our human resources regarding digitalization and the application of artificial intelligence, especially in logistics," said Deputy Minister Faisol.

He further mentioned that the government is ready to listen to the challenges faced by the logistics industry on the ground to create a competitive logistics system amid global economic challenges.

Input from business players is crucial for strengthening regulatory support and policies for best practices in the logistics industry. This is key for making Indonesia an economic hub in the region in the long run, said Deputy Minister Faisol.

Meanwhile, Garrick Thompson, Managing Director of FedEx Express Indonesia, expressed the company's desire to continue partnering with the government in the logistics sector. FedEx Express Indonesia is also committed to increasing investment with positive government support.

"We see many opportunities in Indonesia, not just to boost investment but also to enhance human resource capacity in this industry and support the development of local industries to tap into international market opportunities," Garrick stated.

The meeting between the Deputy Minister of Industry and representatives from FedEx Express Indonesia was also attended by Syahroni Ahmad, Director of Industrial Resource Access and International Promotion, and Tri Supondy, Director of International Industrial Access at the Ministry of Industry.
