67 Years Of Pertamina: PIS Maintains Indonesia's Energy Resilience And Continues To Sail Proudly For The Red And White

Wednesday, 11 Dec 2024

PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) is enhancing its role in supporting national energy resilience throughout 2024. PIS's efforts align with PT Pertamina (Persero)'s commitment as it celebrates its 67th anniversary, aiming to accelerate the goals of Pertamina Group.

As the Subholding Integrated Marine Logistics (SH IML), PIS ensures smooth transportation and distribution of energy from Sabang to Merauke. This is evident in the energy transport figures for the year, which show over 161 billion liters of fuel and LPG moved through more than 20,000 sea trips.

CEO Yoki Firnandi stated, "As part of Pertamina Group, we act as the virtual lifeline of Indonesia's energy, ensuring supplies reach all corners of the archipelago to keep the economy running smoothly. This focus aligns with our vision of energy self-sufficiency. Currently, we manage over 700 vessels operating 24/7 to guarantee energy distribution."

Out of the 700 vessels, 300 are energy and petrochemical tankers, with 102 being owned by PIS. The remaining 400 are support vessels from PT Pertamina Trans Kontinental (PTK), which play a crucial role in marine services at numerous Pertamina terminals, ensuring safe and secure energy transport.

Additionally, PIS strengthens the national energy distribution chain through six energy terminals across the country under PT Pertamina Energy Terminal (PET), which can hold 922,000 kiloliters of fuel and 284,500 metric tons of LPG.

One of these terminals is the LPG Terminal Tanjung Sekong in Banten, which supports about 40% of the national LPG demand. This terminal is equipped with advanced technology such as the Terminal Automation System and the Digital Integrated Operation System (DIOS) to enhance operational efficiency.

PIS has also improved its reliability in energy delivery by adding 11 tanker fleets. Most of these tankers are Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGC), which are environmentally friendly giant gas ships, symbolizing PIS's support for accelerating the energy transition towards Net Zero by 2060.

The reliability and achievements within the country motivate PIS to continue expanding its reach and enhancing Pertamina's reputation internationally.

Thanks to its strategic approach, PIS is confidently growing its market, with a non-captive market share of 19.2%. Representing Indonesia well, PIS vessels now serve 65 global routes, supported by three strategic representative offices in Singapore, Dubai, and London. PIS is also seizing promising new opportunities, especially in Africa, Europe, and the Baltic countries.

PIS has shown outstanding performance, recording revenue of USD 1.72 billion in the first half of 2024, a 6% increase from the same period last year. Net profit reached USD 280.9 million, a remarkable 103% rise compared to 2023. This success reflects the company's consistent business transformation and focus on supporting Indonesia's vision as an energy-resilient nation.

Energy Transition Commitment

Business diversification is another initiative for PIS, particularly in the transportation of green cargo such as LNG, LPG, and petrochemicals. By 2024, the contribution from green business will account for 34% of the company's total revenue, demonstrating PIS's commitment to sustainability.

“Our initiatives have successfully helped PIS reduce 41.4 kilotons of CO2e by October 2024, surpassing our target of 29 kilotons CO2e for this year,” said Yoki.

We will continue to contribute our best to support Pertamina Group in achieving energy independence.
