The Ministry Of Industry Encourages Small And Medium-sized Batik Businesses To Target The National Hajj Uniform Market, Even Without Standardization

Wednesday, 19 Jun 2024

The Ministry of Industry continues to strengthen the halal industry as a step towards accelerating access to the global halal market. This strategic effort is in line with the national policy based on Shariah economics implemented by the Indonesian Government.

According to the State of the Global Islamic Economy (SGIE) Report 2023 released by Dinar Standard in Dubai, United Arab Emirates last year, Indonesia has successfully entered the top three in The Global Islamic Economy Indicator (GIEI) after Malaysia and Saudi Arabia.

"The potential for domestic halal products is very promising. Indonesia, as the second largest Muslim population in the world with 236 million people, is also a potential market for halal consumer goods, especially worship equipment," said the Head of the Standardization and Industrial Policy Agency (BSKJI) of the Ministry of Industry, Andi Rizaldi in Jakarta, on Tuesday (18/6).

The Head of BSKJI stated that the textile and textile product (TPT) industry is expected to capture the market for worship equipment products. For example, products for umrah or hajj worship. Indonesia is one of the countries with the highest number of umrah and hajj pilgrims to the Holy Land.

"The industry involved in providing equipment for Muslim worship must be encouraged to meet good product quality standards through SPPT-SNI certification, as well as meet halal product guarantees to increase consumer trust," he explained.

The development related to industrial standardization and halal product guarantees has been implemented by one of the technical implementation units of the Ministry of Industry, namely the Textile Standardization and Industrial Services Center (BBSPJI) in Bandung, West Java.

At the event of the Halal Certificate handover for the National Hajj Uniform Cap Batik to the business owner from West Java, CV. IM & CO, the Head of BBSPJI Textile, Cahyadi, expressed his appreciation for the success of CV. IM & CO as the pioneer of the first national Hajj uniform batik fabric and successfully obtaining the Halal Certificate from the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) of the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

"This business voluntarily and independently applied for halal certification for its products through the BBSPJI Textile Halal Inspection Agency, after previously utilizing a series of industrial standardization support services from BBSPJI Textile," Cahyadi said. The Hajj uniforms produced by CV. IM & CO are used by a number of pilgrims departing in 2024/1445 Hijriyah.

"We always prioritize integrated industry development solutions that provide efficiency benefits for MSMEs, so that they can simultaneously meet several industry regulations and standards requested by users. With this strategy, the output can be faster, more targeted, and more affordable," he added.

The Halal Certificate is one of the requirements that must be met by MSMEs and SMEs that want to become producers and suppliers of Indonesian Hajj Pilgrim Batik Uniforms. Through the Decision of the Director General of Hajj and Umrah No. 366 of 2023, it is stated that MSMEs and SMEs with NIBs with KBLI 13134 - Batik Industry can produce these uniforms as long as they meet the requirements.

Among the requirements are having standardization of raw materials and production process technology, having or in the process of obtaining a batikmark certification, having or in the process of obtaining halal certification submitted to the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH), having a workshop or workplace for production, and having evidence of batik cap production capabilities.
