Collaboration Between PHR And EMP Gandewa Boosts Production By 12 Times At The Menggala South Field

Tuesday, 03 Dec 2024

Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) and EMP Energi Gandewa, a subsidiary of PT Energi Mega Persada Tbk., have significantly boosted oil production at the Menggala South Field. The two latest development wells, MESO#16 and MESO#17, began production on November 22 and 29, 2024, respectively, yielding up to 3,938 barrels per day. This achievement has increased the field's total production by twelve times compared to previous levels. The success is attributed to the implementation of unitization, allowing both companies to manage the geologically connected field despite being in different operational areas.

Rikky Rahmat Firdaus, Head of SKK Migas Sumbagut, praised this accomplishment. He noted that the unitization concept applied at Menggala South is a strategic move to optimize oil and gas production in Indonesia. "This not only enhances production efficiency but also maximizes reserve potential. We appreciate the strong performance and collaboration between PHR WK Rokan and EMP Gandewa," Rikky stated.

This achievement results from thorough evaluation and technological innovation by PHR. By utilizing reprocessed 3D seismic data with the latest technology, PHR's geoscience team identified previously untapped oil reserves.

Meanwhile, Andre Wijanarko, EVP of Upstream Business at PHR, remarked, "This success shows that with strong collaboration and the right technology, we can enhance oil production even in mature fields."

Kelik Rudi Suharya, Director of Asset I at Energi Mega Persada, expressed gratitude for this collaboration's success. "We are proud to contribute to increasing national oil production through our partnership with PHR," he said.

Kelik hopes that the results of this first well drilling will inspire and spread success to other fields, both in WK Siak and WK Rokan.

The Menggala South field was first discovered and began production in 1973. This field is a unitized area located in two concession zones owned by PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (Rokan Block) and PT Energi Mega Persada Gandewa (Siak Block).

For several decades, this field was developed until 2009. However, there were no new drilling activities until 2024. With the collaboration between PHR and PT EMP Gandewa, along with the use of the latest technology, the Menggala South field is now showing significant production potential to further boost national oil production achievements.
