PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) and PT Pertamina Lubricants have successfully developed the first domestic open gear lubricant in Indonesia. This achievement is a strategic move for SIG to meet the demand for open gear lubricants that have been imported, while also enhancing the potential for local content value (TKDN) in the company's operations. The initiative by SIG and PT Pertamina Lubricants aligns with the direction of the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir, to boost competitiveness with local products. "This is realized through the local content level (TKDN) promoted by state-owned companies. We prove that Indonesian products can compete with those from other nations, and we take pride in our national creations," said Erick Thohir. The development of the grease-type open gear lubricant began in February 2022 and continued until December 2023, undergoing testing at the laboratory of PT Pertamina Lubricants. The developed lubricant has passed performance tests at the ball mill of SIG's subsidiaries, PT Semen Padang and PT Semen Tonasa, showing normal operating conditions across all parameters, including vibration, temperature, and gear condition during performance testing from August to December 2023. SIG's Operations Director, Reni Wulandari, stated that this achievement marks an important milestone in SIG's transformation journey, particularly in efforts to increase TKDN value and reduce reliance on imported products, reflecting the company's support for the domestic industry. This success was made possible through applied research that aligns with the established operational performance targets. By providing performance testing facilities for lubricants, SIG is committed to developing open gear lubricants, which are crucial for protecting the main gears in various cement production equipment. The main gear bears heavy loads because it operates for long periods in conditions that require good and optimal lubrication. The quality of open gear lubricants with set specifications can help maintain the gear's lifespan according to the equipment maintenance targets. "The domestic open gear lubricant developed by SIG in collaboration with PT Pertamina Lubricants aims for both technical and economic reliability, which is expected to meet the needs of SIG's cement plants that have been relying on imports. This achievement aligns with the company's operational excellence goals and SIG's commitment to enhancing the competitiveness of the domestic industry," said Reni Wulandari. Werry Prayogi, the President Director of PT Pertamina Lubricants, stated that the successful development of the first domestic open gear lubricant is a clear demonstration of PT Pertamina Lubricants' commitment to fostering innovation and industrial independence. This is also the first time Pertamina's grease has been tested on main equipment at SIG's plant, proving to work effectively in protecting the main gear in demanding operational environments. "Through a strategic collaboration with SIG, we are proud to present a product developed by our own nation that not only has a competitive price but also shows excellent performance in trials at PT Semen Padang and PT Semen Tonasa. The trial results highlight advantages in temperature stability, resistance to heavy loads, and cost efficiency. We are proud to contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of the domestic industry and reducing reliance on imported products through innovations designed and developed entirely in Indonesia," said Werry Prayogi.
