Support Decarbonization, The Ministry Of Industry Accelerates The Transformation To Green Industry

Thursday, 21 Nov 2024

The Indonesian government is committed to developing a green industry, focusing on decarbonization policies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning to cleaner, sustainable energy. Key elements of Indonesia's decarbonization policy involve the energy sector, environmental protection, and natural resource management.

“With the growing public awareness of eco-friendly products and the establishment of a national carbon market, Indonesia has a significant opportunity to promote green industry practices,” said Andi Rizaldi, Head of the Industrial Standardization and Policy Agency (BSKJI), in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday (November 19).

The Head of BSKJI emphasized that the Ministry of Industry actively facilitates the certification of Green Industry Standards (SIH). As of May 2024, 74 companies have received SIH certification. “This support is expected to accelerate the industry's transformation towards being more environmentally friendly and sustainable,” he stated.

Several units under BSKJI are also contributing to the acceleration of green industry transformation, including the Surabaya Standardization and Industrial Service Center (BSPJI). BSPJI Surabaya's role in decarbonization includes providing air emission and ambient testing services, utilizing solar panel-based infrastructure, conducting green industry training, promoting green industry awareness, and participating in the development of green industry standards.

The Head of BSKJI praised BSPJI Surabaya for organizing the 2024 Industry Meeting with the theme “Together for Sustainability.” “In line with this theme, we hope that BSPJI Surabaya's service performance will meet the needs of the national industry, especially in East Java, making it a partner for industries in achieving sustainable, independent, and competitive practices,” he explained.

The head of BSPJI Surabaya, Ransi Pasae, is optimistic that with the support services provided by BSPJI Surabaya, the national industrial sector will continue to grow in line with the sustainable development goals set by the government. "Our services include greenhouse gas emission verification, environmental management system certification, and technology and energy audits," he stated.

Ransi also mentioned that BSPJI Surabaya can be a strategic partner for industries to enhance competitiveness and support sustainability in the green and digital economy era. "We offer certification, testing, and technical guidance, especially in implementing SNI and regulations related to technology-based industries," he added.

Moreover, BSPJI Surabaya plays a role in optimizing the implementation of the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) policy, which aims to reduce dependence on imported products and support local industry development. Currently, 450 companies in East Java have received TKDN certification.

"This policy is expected to encourage increased use of local products in the national supply chain and strengthen the competitiveness of Indonesian products in the global market," Ransi explained.

East Java has been a key industrial region contributing significantly to both regional and national economies. In the third quarter of 2024, the processing industry sector in East Java contributed up to 25.55 percent to the economy of Java Island, with a growth rate of 5.92 percent.

The dominant subsector in East Java is the food and beverage industry, accounting for 40.18 percent of the total processing industry, followed by the tobacco industry (22.78%) and the chemical and pharmaceutical industry (9.83%). With these achievements, East Java plays a strategic role in meeting national food and processed industrial product needs.
